Brinnington Hall care home in Stockport, Cheshire has been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (“CQC”), achieving the enviable rating in four key areas of care: effective, caring, responsive and well-led. The latest inspection report was published last week after CQC made an unannounced two day visit to the home in July.

The team of inspectors comprised of three adult social care inspectors plus an Expert by Experience and they all spent time looking around the home and speaking with various residents, relatives and staff. They observed care and exchanges between residents and staff members and looked at a range of care records, staff records and policies and procedures.

Residents at Brinnington Hall, which is operated by Ideal Carehomes, were keen to apprise the inspectors about life at the home, with one stating: “All the staff are brilliant. They look after me. I can talk to them and I can do what I want to do.” The report noted that residents were involved in the development of their care plans and were actively encouraged to make their own decisions. Interactions between staff and residents were seen to be kind and compassionate with residents being treated with respect at all times. Another resident stated that the staff team “make it homely and are very kind.”

Staff reinforced the resident’s comments saying, “I like it here, it’s like my second home. The atmosphere is amazing”. They spoke positively about Home Manager, Christina Durnan, stating “She’s so friendly and approachable.” Christina said, “I am extremely proud of the team at Brinnington Hall – communication is key and we all work well together with our residents being the number one priority. Person-centred care is at the heart of our home and I am pleased that this was a theme throughout the inspection report. We have all the tools in place and I know we will continue to go from strength to strength on the road to an ‘Outstanding’ rating next time!”

Inspectors viewed all communal areas and were complimentary about the furnishings and decorations of the home, with impressive consideration given to support those people who are living with dementia. They found there to be a relaxed atmosphere throughout the home with many social events being held including a regular themed pop-up restaurant.

The overarching theme of the report is that residents feel cared for and happy whilst living at Brinnington Hall. Brinnington Hall provides residential and dementia care for 67 local older people. Through a varied programme of activities, highly nutritious food and inspirational spaces, the home provides residents with person-centred care, creating aspirational lifestyle choices.
