Fairway View Care Home Rated ‘Good’ By Care Quality Commission

Fairway View care home in Bulwell, Nottingham, has been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (“CQC”) in an inspection report published last week. The home achieved the enviable rating in all key areas of care: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. CQC made the unannounced visits to the home, which is operated by Ideal Carehomes (www.idealcarehomes.co.uk), over two days in April 2017.

During the visit, the CQC Inspectors spoke with various people at Fairway View, including residents, relatives, friends, staff members and health professionals in order to get an overall understanding of the home. Everyone spoke highly of Home Manager, Dorothy Mbulo, and the positive impact she has made on the home. The vision and values of the staff team were observed to be person-centred, with staff helping people to maintain key relationships with those important to them. One resident spoke about how effective their care is: “It’s been lovely, they look after us”. Another relative said, “We can’t speak highly enough of the quality of care here”.

Dorothy couldn’t be more thrilled with the comments made by CQC. She said, “We all know that Fairway View is a great place to live, and I am so pleased with the comments from CQC. We have a great staff team who really make a difference to to the lives of our residents and I am so proud of them all – we all work well together with our priority being our residents and I am delighted that this has been noted by CQC. We have everything in place to be the first ‘Outstanding’ care home in Bulwell and I am sure we will reach our goal!”

Staff were found to be calm and caring, with residents being happy and relaxed. Inspectors noted that there are regular themed events which proved to be very popular and well attended, with friends, relatives and the local community invited. During the visit, Inspectors saw residents take part in a range of activities including an exercise class, a sing-a-long, flower arranging and arts and crafts, with one resident stating that they “never get bored”.

One relative said about the home, “It’s just fantastic, it really is. You can see the residents are really well looked after.” The overarching theme of the report is that residents feel safe and happy whilst living at Fairway View, with the Home Manager and staff team proving to be caring, supporting and responsive at all times. Fairway View provides residential and dementia care for 41 local older people. Through a varied programme of activities, highly nutritious food and inspirational spaces, the home provides residents with person-centred care, creating aspirational lifestyle choices.
